Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series!
Okay folks,
Karin-Chan requested a post to discuss The Percy Jackson books, so here you go! Also, I was cruising Rick Riordan's site to see if there was any info about when #5 might be coming out, and while I didn't find anything like that, I did find a recommended reading list from Mr. Riordan himself to keep you entertained while you wait. Click here to see what books he recommends, and please note that Hunger Games is on there, which is one of our newbies that I've been telling you all about. Check it out!
So, what do we think of Percy and his adventures? And how about this, if you were the son or daughter of a Greek god, which one would be your parent and why?

Book Club Meeting Tomorrow!
Hi guys!
Okay, so I think we're in agreement to meet tomorrow during the second half of lunch. Why don't we all head up to the library @ noon:10? That give us 50ish minutes of lunch and 30ish minutes to discuss the book. Sound good? Hopefully I'll have enough copies of Born to Rock to get us all started before Thanksgiving-- I believe I will.
All right, so as a first comment to this post I will add questions to lead our discussion tomorrow. Read them over and have ideas about what you want to discuss. I'm looking forward to it!

Twilight Trivia!
This is added as a comment in the For Twilight Fans post below, but I thought it deserved its own post:
It's time for me to throw some trivia out there to get everyone fired up for the movie! Answer me these questions three:
1. What science lab is Bella participating in when she passes out and has to be taken to the nurse?
2. What sport are the Cullens very fond of?
3. What is James' gift? How does it affect Bella and Edward?
Early winners get a Twilight prize!

Gordon Korman Book Club-- Book II
Hey guys,
We actually don't even have this book in our library (I am rectifying that right now), but I am interested in reading Born to Rock next if you're game. A teacher recommended it to me last summer, and I totally forgot about it. :) Oops. Anyway, click on the title hyperlinked above, and let's take a vote.

For Twilight Fans!
Hi all you Meyerites!
It is almost here... the Twilight movie comes out this weekend, and if you haven't visited it in a while, you really should check out Stephenie Meyer's website (linked here) to get fully caught up on all things Twilight. Also, if you haven't heard, Borders had a movie release party last night that I didn't make it to--but I hope you did! Check this page out to see behind-the-scenes footage of the movie and all sorts of other cool stuff to get you ready for this weekend.
So, the question is... how many times do you think you'll go see Twilight over Thanksgiving break? Hmm...

Schooled Book Club--Discussion Questions for first meeting!
Here's some talking points for tomorrow morning, guys; let's be thinking about responses for the following:
1. Explain the type of life Cap has been leading at Garland. How is his life about to change dramatically? Have you ever daydreamed about being homeschooled? What do you think it would be like?
2. Where does Cap land while his grandmother, Rain, recovers? What do you think would be the most difficult thing to understand about middle school life?
3. How is Cap treated by Sophie, Zach, Hugh, and Naomi? How do people decide whether to be cruel or kind to someone who is new? Do you blame Sophie for her reaction to him? Would you want Cap to be living in your house?
4. Hugh realizes that if it weren’t for Cap he would be low man on the totem pole. “Better him than me.” (p.30) Do you think this is a theme of middle school? Do students put up with bullying a lot because they’re afraid it might be them next?
5. What prank does Zach plan for Cap? Do you think this could happen at your own school? Why do people go along with it? In your opinion who is worse- Zach or Naomi? Why?
6. Cap is full of hippie wisdom like “When you’re unkind to others, it’s usually because you don’t believe that you, yourself, deserve kindness.” (p.46) Do you agree with this statement? What about his other philosophical statements?
7. What is the turning point event for Cap that changes how people perceive him at school? Have you ever known someone who acted heroically?
8. Why does Hugh think, “I was a worm, but at least I had the strength of character to be ashamed of it.” (p. 75) Does Zach realize that he’s being a worm too?
See you at 8:00 sharp-- I promise!

SCHOOLED book club is on like donkey kong!
All right, so far there is five of us-- Nathan, Rachael, Analie and Garrison (you still want in, right, Analie?), which is plenty to start a book club in my opinion! If anyone out there is still interested, come see me! I'm in the process of gathering copies right now so we can get reading over the weekend. I'm excited to get some of his books under my belt so I'll be ready to talk with him when he visits; maybe we can roll through this one and get one or two more read before December 11th when he's here in person! Incidentally, here is a clip of him on YouTube discussing Swindle; I couldn't get it to load today, but maybe you'll have better luck from home. Enjoy!
Thanks guys--
:)
