So Much Going On!

Hi Rattler Readers!
Sorry I haven't posted in a while, but getting the library up and running and training our small army of parent volunteers has kept me busy lately.

There's a lot to discuss! #1 is the upcoming, right-around-the-corner release of Brisingr, the third (BUT NOT LAST) release in the Inheritance series, following Eragon and Eldest. Have you read this books? Are you excited?!! I need to go back and reread the first two because it's been a while. If you're interested in joining me, look for the Inheritance display on the north wall of the library and check a copy out!

#2 is a Twilight update. The movie has been moved up; the release date is now right around Thanksgiving! Did you guys know that? And speaking of, did we like Breaking Dawn? What did we think? I'm curious to know where you guys are on this one... I have mixed emotions, myself.

#3 is our author visit in December! Gordon Korman, author of Swindle, Schooled, No More Dead Dogs, the Everest, Island, and Dive series among others will be coming to Altona to speak to the grade levels. I am very excited about Altona's first-ever author visit! I'm thinking maybe we should set up book clubs and read his books to get prepared. For those of you who haven't read his stuff, he is a fun-- and funny-- author.

I think that's it for now. Comment away, people! Let's get this blog rolling again!

Hey Guys...

I am excited about BRSINGR!!!! Yes.

Anyway, haven't read Breaking Dawn yet. I have been a bit busy reading The House of Scorpions for Mrs. Hammond.

Thirdly, I have read No More Dead Dogs. That was pretty good, I just haven't read it in a while. I would be up for a book club on his books if available.

Hi analie and KIMI!

It is definitely up to you, Analie, as to whether or not to give Eldest a second go; if you intend to try to read Brisingr, than I highly recommend it as there is a cliffhanger ending to Eldest. :) If you're not interested, then by all means, don't sweat it!

Gordon Korman did write some adventure/series books-- we've got them in the library, and they are numbered I believe. His visit will be during the school day--woohoo! And KIMI, I will keep you posted on any book clubs; the set of books I got of his were just checked out by Mr. Thibault for class use, so I'll come up with a plan B.

Take care, everyone, and have a great week!
:)

Analie~
I read No More Dead Dogs in a long time, but I do remember that I liked it. It did have something to do with the fact that most classics with dogs, have dogs that die.

Hello~ I, personally, am a fan of Gordon Korman, so I thought it'd give some input. His books are quite amazing, but it's been a while since I last read any of this books. I loved his On the Run series, and wanted to read the sequel, but haven't gotten a chance. He's really good at writing adventure and action. As for No More Dead Dogs, that was an amusing book too. I loved how he sets up the humor.

As for The House of Scorpions, no, it is not a series. However, it is a really good and thought-provoking book. However, on Nancy Farmer's website, it said that there will be a sequel to the book, since someone requested it.

Well, I hope this clears up some questions.

(can't hyperlink from home, sorry-- do a copy-and-paste!) to see Paolini discuss the writing of this series and read passages from the new one!

I'm out-- have a good weekend, everybody, and happy reading!

The House of Scorpion is about this boy named Matt, who is basically the clone of a powerful drug lord, named El Patron. El Patron raised Matt so that he could use Matt's organs to live longer.

The book takes you through Matt's life and how he grows. It shows what a clone might think and act like if one ever existed. The characters are written extremely well, so you find a variety of cast in there, which sparks for a lot of conflict, along with dislike for Matt because he's a clone, so he has to learn to cope with that. However, he does have a few friends who help him and want to save him in the book from his fate, which he does not know of until later on.

The book also has a lot of hints and other relations to events today, such as illegal immigrants and how people take advantage of them, represented in the book by 'eejits' which are basically humans-but-transformed-into-robots.

The book also sparks up a lot of debate, such as whether clones have souls or not, and whether they can be 'human' like us (or what makes a person so special and a person).

Overall, it is a very interesting book, and I think you'll enjoy it a lot once you get to reading it.

I hope that helps a bit.

I can field this one, Analie-- although I think some 7th graders would definitely enjoy it, they read this for class in the 8th grade. If you chose to read it early, that would be entirely up to you-- it's a fascinating book!

Can't wait to put a hold on it! it wouldn't let me earlier...

Why do they call the first book it is the second youngest book in the series and Eldest is the second youngest dragon?

nathan,

other than the point that i did not understand a word you said, i think a book club would be cool.

mrs. Pulley,

where were you today??? now i'm starting to doubt reading the 39 clues series, if they come out with approximently 4 books every year, i'm going to be about 22 when the last book comes out! but about the book, it's started out very interestingly. for some reason, i feel as though Alistair will die in this book, despite all his good intentions. have you gotten that feeling? any comments?

ciao!

analie

ps: i'll try to make the meeting, but my mom has staff meeting in the morning. if so, i might be a little late. see you then!

Hey guys,

Analie, I was at a funeral Friday. Caitlin Epple, the girl who died in the car wreck last weekend, was one of my all-time favorite students. I've been absolutely devastated by her passing; if you had asked before, I would have told you that she would change the world. She is a big loss to us all. It was a very positive and uplifting funeral, though, and I am glad I attended. The sun is out today, right? :)

There are only going to be 10 books in the 39 Clues series, so I don't think you'll be anywhere near 22 when this wraps up. :) They're thinking four a year, so...

Book club, hunh. Talk to me after book fair-- I'm crazed right now! I do have five copies of Schooled by Gordon Korman sitting around collecting dust if you are interested!

Have a good Sunday-- I'm off to the mountains!

Fichaber was upset about a passing student too. well i'm glad there will be only 10 books, i was a little worried... have you read the first one? any comments? i might read Schooled again, but if Mr. Thibault has us read the book i might not. thanks, though!

Brisingr Is awesome!!! I didn't know that there are 4 books. Do you think he didn't know he needed more space, or did he purposely do that to add up the suspense of the next book?
