1st round of discussion questions for Watership Down

There's a lot of setting and character building at the beginning of this book-- very heavy on the exposition, but you'll be glad for it later. So, let's start with some pretty basic questions:

1. How does Hazel end up being the group leader? What are his personality traits that allow him to lead? Does Fiver have something to do with Hazel being leader?

2. Rabbits are creatures of habit. How is it that such a relatively large group of rabbits is willing to leave with Hazel and Fiver?

3. Who's your favorite rabbit so far? Why?

4. We get our first El-ahrairah story in this section. Does it remind you of anything you've read before? Describe similarities and differences!

That's it for now. I have a conference to go to Thursday, but you guys will still meet with Mr. Custis. NEXT PAGE GOAL: It's a big one-- let's push to Part II, page 132. We gotta get motivated if we're going to finish this in six weeks and still have time to watch the movie!

Ok So Here are my awswers to the dissuccions questions,
1)I think the way Hazel becomes group leader,is how he tooke charge of the group. But he did it in a repectful manner and had natural leadership qualitys. I dont really think that Fiver had that big of deal of impact of Hazel become the groups leader, he could of but I dont think that it is likly.

2)I think the way Fiver and Hazel were able to get so many Rabbits to come with them is because they are both (Hazel and Fiver) very persawsive and geniully nice, so many Rabbits trust them.

3)I think that my favorite Rabbit so far is Hazel, he is my favorite Rabbit so far because I think he is a lot like me!

4)Um the story of What's his name: reminds me of the story in Genisis 1:1 that God created the heaven and the Earth, It also reminds me aoh a New Testamit story but I cant think of the name right now.

Gotcha. Well, I LOVE this book-- it's such a well-told tale. The different rabbits are all distinct personalities that you can recognize, the situations seem very real, the mythology and vocabulary is rich, and even rereading it, I can't wait to see what happens next. Since I have read it before, I can't really participate in predictions, but I would love to hear what you guys think... chat away.
I'd be surprised if you didn't have questions, so please ask. I'll answer them as I can-- or point you in the right direction!

1.noone is likely to beleave fiver, so hazel has a higher impact.
2.rabbits join the group because hazel is an average rabbit, so he can be persuaysive.
3.hawkbit is my favorite rbit because he is a little dim-witted.he reminds me of a jock.
4.the story reminds me of mother earth from greek mythology.
