It's really happening!

I am here. School is back in session, and for all intents and purposes, summer IS over. I've been in denial for a couple of weeks, but after Back to School Night last night, it's time to face facts! :) Enough with the drama.

So let's use this post to comment about our favorite book we read this summer! I'll start; click into the post to read what wins my vote!

Welcome back, everyone!

Okay, my favorite book of the summer has got to be Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It's a post-apocalyptic tale about kids being forced to fight literally to the death in order to win food and riches for their families. This is a very simple explanation, but it is a far from simple novel! The sequel (Hunger Games has a complete story arch and didn't really need a sequel, but it works with one, too) is on order for the library, and I get first dibs!

Ah.....I loved Hunger Games as well, but I didn't read it this summer..... ;) I'm pretty sure that I lost my book....I think in school....dang...I'll have to buy it again...

Anyways, I'm not sure if it was my favorite read over the summer, but I really enjoyed Elsewhere...It's been a book I've been interested in since like 6th grade or so, but I found it this year in a used book store.....it is an interesting idea...Another book that I enjoyed was Robota, but I recently read that and thus it can't count for a summer read...haha.

I think we should read it....it's very interesting and I think it would be interesting to discuss...I've always been interested in books that talk about the future of humanity (Even though my vision of the far off future is....depressing and deadly... ^ ^;) and I have read/heard a lot of books and stuff about that recently...how weird. (HungerGames, Robota, "In the Year 2525", and so on.... :/ )

Hey Rattlers, dropping in to say hi! I just wanted to make a random post since I haven't been around this summer. (Vacation + dance camp = no internet) So far, junior year is terrible, and I haven't even had all of my homework--I hear language arts is the hardest class for IB kids in junior year. And to tell the truth, Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment (don't tackle this unless you're absolutely serious) is HARD. I hated reading all 553 pages of it. Toni Morrison's Song of Solomon, the other summer reading book, is a lot easier to get through, so I'm looking forward to intense discussions in class...there's adult themes in it, not recommended for middle schoolers. :P

I've joined book club at our school (for the free coffee, obviously) and this month's read is Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Absolutely hilarious--I can see a lot of seniors hugging this book next year since Austen is required for LA 12--the author cuts the boring parts, keeps the main story and really dumb it down, but you get the plot and the characters, with lots of gory details.

I'm also reading Atonement at the moment and it's also really, really good....
