What do we think, Bookies?

Okay, who's finished? Who's not, and where are you? Let's start there, and then discuss the following:

1. At what point did you realize that good would triumph over evil?
2. Do any of the "good" characters have any evil in them?
3. What did you think about Basta as you finished the novel?

Let's talk!
:)

Hey everyone! :P

I have finished the book!
And I think that I realized that the good would triumph over the evil like as soon as the Shadow was mentioned....I felt as though by the way they described the Shadow that it would be too uncontrolable.....even for Capricorn....
Also, I found Basta a very interesting character...He seems to me like he could be a very sensable gentleman, but since he was "raised" by Capricorn that he's been trained to enjoy pain and hatred.....But those are my thoughts.......

Ciao!

Finished!
I realized that good would triumph when Fenoglio started writing. I was pretty sure that that would go somewhere. And if it wasn't then, then it would be when Meggie found her Mom because I didn't think that they would kill her right after finding her.

I would have to agree with Analie witht the whole part of Basta would have been a gentleman....almost. Maybe he would have been rough around the edges.

Overall, I liked the book.

Rachael,

"I would have to agree with Analie witht the whole part of Basta would have been a gentleman....almost. Maybe he would have been rough around the edges."

(sorry for quoting... XP)

Yeah, you have a good point there! :P I also feel as though he's not the best "self leader"..... like when he hasn't been told an order *from Capricorn* he just reacts with violence *both physical and word-wise*.

Haha, we might have to choose a book soon, because I just started "The Audacity of Hope" and it's been very interesting....so my reading interests might be on Obama's book for a while..... XP

scat---Why Not?
I think we should read scat. I think most of us would have read it anyway, and, as much as I hate Carl's NEON and KIDDISH covers, his books are well written, enjoyable, and, well the opposite!

Nathan,

Haha, yes, I like that idea. I love Carl's books! :D

And how can you call his covers neon and kiddish when I remember a certain English report at the beginning of the year that featured a neon Altona symbol?

:P

I'm surprised about your hating of the neon covers, Nathan. It seems like something you would like. Anyway...back to the original topic.

Analie, you have a good point with Basta not being a very good leader. I feel he's a little lost. I think it crushed him that Capricorn was about to kill him too. Maybe that's why he didn't go back into the book. Or maybe Capricorn "killed" him in a way. Any thoughts on that?

I think Dustfinger is a very interesting character too. He seems to be constantly switching from "good" to "evil." I think he goes with whatever one has the best outcome for himself, without regarding the outcomes.

I don't know what book we should read, but while I was sick I've been reading my Nancy Drew stack I got a a fundraiser and I'm in the mood for some mystery. Anyone know of a good mystery book? (Boys probably wouldn't enjoy Nancy Drew as much,)

Rachael,

That's an interesting thought on Capricorn "killing" Basta in a way...I think it is deffinitly possible... for after Capricorn was killed, Basta just went away...didn't try to fight anyone or anything of his usual sorts....

Also, if you are looking for a good mystery, I suggest Agatha Christie....she's a great mystery writer! :P

Printer was low on ink... not my fault! (you got to admit that was AWESOME!) Basta a leader-HA! he obviously doesn't want to be there and can't even stand up to capricorn...Who could? Very interesting character... the one that "just-wants-to-fit-in"

Nathan,

Haha, I was just joking Nathan. :P (but how can you call that awesome if you don't like Carl's covers?!) ohwell... I'm not sure if Jamia has finished yet, I forgot to talk to her today...I wonder if the movie's still in the theaters....

My fellow people i am finally done with Inkheart!!!!! Oh and getting back to the subject (Analie) i agree with you guys Basta did seem like he died, but what i dont get is why he didnt start crying like the Magpie when Capricorn died??? and where did the Magpie go anyways????

and i agree with Rachel about Dustfinger, he was an interesting charecter...

Anonymous said...

Joel,

Yes, but I'm not entirely sure...he might show up and future books.....and don't forget that the Magpie was Capricorn's mother...and wasn't stuck in a cage for a week, give or take...

I think all of the characters were interesting...different personalities, different thoughts go through my head.

A great read over all, I think.

Kenneth,

Haha, well, I hope Jamia doesn't go on the blog anytime soon....
I'm just curious, what confused you about Basta's ending?

And a magpie is a black and white bird. I think Capricorn's mother is called The Magpie because she wears black and white, but I'm not sure...can't remember...........

by the way....IF we are going to do something for the book, I suggest that we do it soon......it's March already!

Analie

Much less, I have high doubts that the movie is still in theatres....

I belive that Basta was a very different charecter, as in he really isnt evil but only does what his master says to do, and when his master betrayed him at the end he really must have died. And i agree with Kenneth in that Basta did confuse me because his master had just died and i belived that he would be devistated like the Magpie, but he actully seemed energetic????????

Oh and about the magpie thing. I belive that the Magpie is called the Magpie because she is really skinny.
