Life As We Knew It

Okay, I lied a little-- I told bwam that I would have this post up and ready to go over last weekend, and for that I apologize. Here it is, though! I really enjoyed this book; it's interesting to think about what would happen if the moon got knocked just a tiny bit out of orbit... but I'll let bwam tell you more.

Take it away, Analie...

to everyone who cares,

Life as We Knew It is diary entres from a sixteen (?) year old girl named Mirinda (?), sorry, i read the book about 2 weeks ago, and her family. one day, there is a report that a asteriod was going to crash into the moon. scientists believed that the moon would not be affected by this impact, because the asteriod had a low density. when Mirinda first hears this, she thinks that it's only an excuse for teachers to give more homework, but after it happens, its more then that. the asteriod had crashed into the moon, and it was densire then the scientist had believed. it had caused the moon to go off orbit and come closer to the earth, not colliding with it, but it still brought enourmous amounts of damage. for those of you who didnt know, the earth's water tides are affected by the moon, so when the moon came in to closer orbit, the tides were affected and out of controll. Cape Cod is lost under sea, the statue of Libertie was washed out to sea, Holand is completly submerged (it is below sea level). those are justa few of the calamities that happen within the first hour or so. as time passes, food runs out and gas goes up to 10$ a gallon, survival is limited, and almost hard to come by. live Mirinda's world through this book, as she struggles to live in these harsh conditions, with a scaringly religious friend, no electicity, and limited food. this book is highly suggested, its quiet mind breaking. of course, when i was reading the book, it had to be all stormy and windy and cold outside, reminding me erriely of the book, and almost setting me into a "buy everything you can at the store that will last you at least a year" mode. quit frankly, i still feel like that. it really makes you imagine what could happen if something like or similar like that happened.have fun with the book!

ciao!

I've read snippets of the book, and I definitely want to read more. Even the little I read of it was completely mind-blowing.
