The Classics

Okay, I haven't finished this book yet, but a blog discussion has been requested, so I'll put this in your hands and join in ASAP! I've started it, so hopefully it won't take me very long to have an opinion and questions. Sarah, are you out there?!!

Hi, and yes I am! I haven't finished the book either. I'm having a tough time finishing because of the plot. It just seems to go on and on and on! It gets good, but then it is boring again. Any tips?

Hi Sarah,
I'm not much help right now, I'm afraid. Even though I read a pretty good chunk of it last night, I am still very early in the book. I'll try to get caught up ASAP... what page are you on?

I'm about 100 pages in now, and I'm finally starting to hit my stride with this book. We just got in a shipment of many super-fun looking books, however, so I'm tempted to jump ship and start reading something more brain candyish! I will carry on... this weekend is crucial... must read, must read...

I'm taking a break from this book. It's proven a very difficult read for me right now, so I'm going to read a couple other books then come back to it. Don't get me wrong; I recognize that this is an excellent book, and I've enjoyed what I've read so far, but I haven't gotten "into" it, so I'm going to take a breather. Just an update!

so when was this book published?

Mrs. P said...

Sorry so long, planatoid!
The original publication was 1943.

I was just told by a teacher friend of mine (Ms. Luchies @ SCHS) that I should give myself a little longer to get into the book; it takes a while, but it does pick up steam and get interesting. Therefore, after I finish Extras I am going to revisit A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and give it another shot. It's way overdue at the library (!), so I'll need to renew it and keep at it. I'll keep you guys posted!

Sorry it took me so long to reply! I don't know, maybe half way in? I really don't understand how you could read the whole book, and I am taking a break too!
