Chick Lit Choices

Okay folks, it's time to hear what you think of Eclipse! Did Bella pick the right guy? Is she making the right decision for her life after she graduates? What do you think will happen with her family? I'll join in once you start posting your opinions!

Anyone else want to comment on excellent chick lit/brain candy out there? Do tell!

Dear Mrs. P
I absolutly love that you have the warriors books by "Erin Hunter"
who is acually two people who take turns writing to books. Any way, my elementary school didn't have them, and I hated that!

P.S. Warriors has a website. Google in warrior cats.
Its under w_cats. If that helps!

Hi anonymous!

Thanks for the tip; I've added the website to the authors list. It's very cool! And no, I did not know that Erin Hunter was more than one person... that is very interesting. I haven't started reading Warriors yet, as I figure I'll get sucked into it and want to read all of them. I need to wait until I'm finished with school, which will be later this summer.

I look forward to joining you in the Warriors adventures soon--

I see what you mean about no one saying anything about Eclipse...would you like me to write a complete review/rant (I've actually done one already, in response to a reaction that somebody posted on another site) or do you want me to just talk about it in here?

Anyway, my friends and I have given Stephenie Meyer an ultimatum; if she doesn't change Bella into a vampire into the next book, we are going to hunt her down.

I thought the book was awesome. I've got a quibble against the print and page; it seemed to me that I was turning pages about twice every minute, so I thought the font could've been smaller. I particularly love Jasper's side of the story. I was wondering when he would come out...now, all's left is Esme and Emmett, and then we'll have the history of all the Cullens.

Despite a bunch of people going, "OMMMGGG....Jacob TOTALLY exceeds Edward in hotness", I'm still rooting for the vampire if they ever get in a fight. :)

I also would like to add that "Twilight" was SM's "Pride and Prejudice" (BTW, I'd put that on the chick-lit list--I read it at the end of last year), "New Moon" as "Romeo and Juiliet", and "Eclipse" as Wuthering Heights (working on that one), and "Breaking Dawn" is to be Stephenie Meyer's "A Midsummer's Night Dream". Ought to be fun, eh?

This is Lulu, if you haven't figured it out yet. ;)

What is this book about?

Mrs. P said...

Hey everchanging (Lulu!),
Thanks for the great post-- I knew I could count on you!

Do you think we will get to hear Emmett's story from the horse's mouth? It seems like everyone has told his story for him, and he's not much of a talker... that will be interesting to see. Esthme's ought to be interesting, however. I thought Jasper's story was very cool, too, and I loved the way his history made him "useful" in this book. For the most part, he seems to have been more of a burden to the Cullens than anything else.

You and I are in agreement about the Edward vs. Jacob scenario. I don't wish for a fight, though. Edward's just way cooler. :)

You're thinking Midsummer Night's Dream, eh? Interesting! And what would THAT look like after Bella is made a newborn?!!

To everchanging et al,

Stephenie Meyer's books are very entertaining, no doubt! I do strongly suggest, however, that if you're going to read them, you start with Twilight. I've noticed a lot of people are starting with whichever one happens to be on the shelf... I'm having a hard time imagining not starting with the beginning! I know Twilight is very popular and hard to find on the shelf, but put a hold on it! Those of you who are Twilight Series veterans, do you agree? Or do you think neophytes could start anywhere?

And is anyone interested in giving a synopsis for ilovelucylover07?

Hello Planatoid, Zelda, me! and everyone else!

Right now, there are three books in the Twilight series-- Twilight (duh!), New Moon and Eclipse. Stephenie Meyer plans on writing at least one to two more, I think. They are tagged YA (young adult), but they really aren't as racey as some of the YA stuff out there, for sure. Although the main characters are high school age, the overall mood is romantic (and a little scary!) rather than raunchy. We've had quite a few 6th graders check them out; again, I just ask that you clear it with your parents please!

Remember, our copies of Twilight are out more than they're in, so put a hold on it and get in line! I would love it if you guys read them and then we could really talk about them. That would be fun!

Hey Twilight Readers!
I was just on Stephenie Meyer's website (see the link off this blog!), and it seems she was on the Today Show earlier this week. I went to YouTube and typed in Stephenie Meyer, Today Show and watched the clip. It was all right, but much better if you pair it with the Good Morning America interview clip also available on YouTube. If you're interested, check it out!

FOR THOSE OF YOU WANTING A SUMMARY OF TWILIGHT...

These books are told to us by Bella, our heroine/protagonist, who has just moved in with her father (parents divorced, Mom lives in sunny Arizona) in a town called Forks, Washington. As most of you know, Washington is a very rainy, or at least overcast, state. Not a bad place to live if you don't want to be in sunlight, right? :)

Bella is a sophomore enrolling in the local high school when Twilight opens; she sees herself as plain-looking and knows she is extremely clumsy. While at school, she notices some of the most beautiful and well-dressed teenagers she has ever seen, stating that they all seem to be models. This is her first sighting of the Cullens, a very unusual, and very old, family. :)

From here we follow Bella as she alternately is drawn to and repulsed from Edward, who saves her from certain death once and then finds it necessary to save her time and again afterward (he's sure that she's cheated death and now nature keeps trying to correct itself by killing her off once and for all!). There are many twists and turns to their relationship as they learn more about each other and go through relationship growing pains.

I know I'm being a bit vague, but I am loathe to give more of the story away as it's just too much fun. Like I said before, it's labeled YA in our library, but that is more for the 5th grade than anyone else. This book is pretty clean. However, I will say that the third installment, Eclipse, gets fairly steamy-- though not smutty. Do all of my Twilight series fans agree with that statement and the rest of my summary?

:)
