Boy Book Choices

I love the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. The Lightning Thief, The Sea of Monsters and the latest, The Titan's Curse are a lot of fun for anyone (chicks included!), but I put them in the boy book "genre" because of our main character, Percy Jackson. Percy is a guy's guy; I think we all could have him in class. :) His life is a very adventurous one after he finds out his real father is a greek god! Filled with all sorts of mythological monsters, immortals and weaponry, the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is a sure-fire page turner. I had so much fun reading all three, but I think one of my favorite parts was having to remember all of the gods, goddesses and minor deities from greek mythology-- I had forgotten a lot of them!

After you've read one or more of these, enter this discussion with me: Do you think these books would make good movies? If so, what actors could play the main characters? I'm especially wondering who would play Apollo? How do you picture Olympus? Give me the details!

Hey Rattlers,
I just checked Riordan's website (check the author links on the blog-- he's there and it's a cool site!), and he plans FIVE books in the Percy Jackson series. The fourth book's name will be released in October, and the tentative publication date is in May '08. We can look forward to more of Percy's adventures for at least a couple more years!
Someone commented that this book wasn't necessarily a "boy" book, and as I said in my original post, I couldn't agree more. It's a great book for all kiddos, but I can see boys really relating to Percy. Doesn't he seem like he could go to school here at Altona? :)
I'm glad you guys are getting some ideas for books to read-- does anyone have any other suggestions for the Boy Book catagory? I've already posted about House of the Scorpion and Warrior Heir, but those are both good choices for you guys!

Hi Link,
First, I suggest you go back and read my original posting on this series; there I sort of explain what it's about. Outside of the mythological references, the action will be what stands out to you as there isn't much down time with Percy! Second, there is no dragon. That's not really a part of Greek mythology. :) Third, we've got five copies of Lightning Thief, five I think of Sea of Monsters, and two of Titan's Curse. If you're a pretty quick reader, you'll fly through them. BTW, what are you reading right now? I'm curious what all of my bookworms are reading.
Thanks for the comments!

Hi Link!
Sea of Monsters is #2. If I were you, I'd start with the first, Lightning Thief-- but then again, I hate starting in the middle of anything! :) I'm definitely a "begin at the beginning" kind of person.

So, what do you think of Gregor and the Code of Claw? I haven't read that series yet, but it's a popular one, for sure.
