Saving Zoe

The forum for discussion was also requested by maddie t. This is a new book to our library, and I know very little about it other than it's gotten good reviews. Give them a summary and your opinion, maddie t.!

Among the Hidden

maddie t. requested a forum to discuss this book, so here we go! Who out there has read The Shadow Children series? I have not, so I am curious to hear what you think about this series in general and this book in particular. As for a full discussion... get us started, maddie t.!

Summertime Talk!

I'm a little early, but the Cocoa Talk post is full and a lemonade seems more appropriate anyway. :) Here's the first of however many generic posts we need to chat during the summer. Let's talk about what we're reading, what we want to read, movies, music... whatever!

Stephenie Meyer Is Coming to Town!--REPOST

Hey Twilight Fans!

Some of you missed this, and it was requested that I repost this. The author of The Twilight Saga and The Host will be hitting Denver in support of her novel, The Host. Her website states that her touring in support of Breaking Dawn will be very limited (if at all), so if you want to see her, this is it. Click here to get all the info!

I've Finished The Host :)

I really got rolling on this one after a couple hundred pages! Here's the summary I wrote for a online YA lit class I'm taking over the summer:
"This book is being touted as Stephenie Meyer's first book for adults, but it is also being promoted in YA circles (see her website and MySpace sites!). I therefore wanted to read it and see if it is appropriate for middle school libraries, which minus a smattering of higher-level vocabulary and a couple of PG-13 love scenes, it is perfectly fine for all secondary collections. If you labeled the Twilight books YA, this one would be as well, but it is not controversial. I suggest getting a few copies!

The book opens with the introduction of our narrator, a parasitic alien named Wanderer, who is one of the peaceful Souls that deliberately have taken over Earth. Though she has lived eight different lifetimes on eight different planets, she is ill prepared for the intense emotions and vivid memories that her new host, a human named Melanie Stryder, saddles her with. Melanie is a resistance fighter-- strong in body and mind-- who refuses to vacate the premises as she should, and she battles Wanderer for consciousness in a most literal sense. Wanderer finds herself experiencing and then assuming as her own Melanie's two great loves, her little brother Jamie and fellow rebel Jared. Along with this, she also has to deal with a growing hatred of the Seeker, a sort of alien FBI person, who is suspicious that Wanderer is not in control of her mind.

Stephenie Meyer's books all revolve around the theme of choice, and The Host is no different; Wanderer's new emotions coupled with Melanie's memories lead her to make crucial decisions that turn her away from the calm, logical Souls and headlong into the confusing and violent world of humanity."

We'll have copies of this in the library in the fall! Kira-- and everyone else-- feel free to discuss!

Twilight Movie Trailer!

The print ad picture is kind of cheesy, but check out the movie trailer on IMDb.com here. Make sure you click on the video link and sit through the add-- looks interesting! I wonder if it will be good...

Percy Jackson and the Olympians!

The fourth book in the series is now out! I have two copies of The Battle of the Labyrinth in my office in the library, but of course there isn't any checkout right now. Bloggers may come in and read it in here during their off time... if you're interested!
This forum to discuss the series was requested by Kira. Take it away, Kira!

Life As We Knew It

Okay, I lied a little-- I told bwam that I would have this post up and ready to go over last weekend, and for that I apologize. Here it is, though! I really enjoyed this book; it's interesting to think about what would happen if the moon got knocked just a tiny bit out of orbit... but I'll let bwam tell you more.

Take it away, Analie...
