Book Club This Week!

Hey Bookies!
We had a lively discussion today about a pivotal section of the book! We discussed:
1. Why the author has Scout save Atticus and Tom Robinson when the Cunninghams show up at the jail
2. Whether or not Mayella is like her father
3. What Atticus meant when he says the length of the jury's deliberation might be "the shadow of a beginning"
4. The conversation Dill, Scout and Jem have with Mr. Dolphus Raymond outside the courthouse (starting p. 199)

Plus more, I think. :) If anyone has anything they would like to share about these conversations (whether you were at the meeting or not), go ahead and comment here.

Also, we decided to try to finish the book by Friday so that we will have time to watch the movie. We had originally thought to use ch. 29 and a backup (at least get to this point), but the more I think about it, the more essential it is that we get finished ASAP and get these books back to their home libraries. They are way overdue! Could you guys sally forth and finish by Friday, please? Otherwise, we may have to skip reading to the end and just watch the movie. As I recall, it's very faithful to the end of the book.

Here we go!
:)

  3. I think that finishing the book is manageable for me. I was planning on finishing the book by Friday anyway.

  4. Most likely I could finish the book by Friday. The only thing that might be a problem is that I left my book in my locker over the weekend. I'll try my hardest!

  6. Well Analie you will be missed, but we are going to carry on without you so that we can get these books back, debrief about the ending and get ready to watch the movie! I'm very excited about that, BTW, if I haven't made that clear already. :) We could move it to Thursday if you guys think you can get the book finished a day early... it would be great to have a full crew for our last debrief. Let me know your thoughts.
Or we could move it to the following Monday? What works, people?!

I'm putting the movie on my Netflix order right now!

    Ms. Pulley,

I'm pretty close to being done, so that would be no problem to me! ^ ^

  13. WOOT WOOT!
I was a little worried, but I was pretty sure we won.

And, they probably made the banner already because they knew we are just that awesome. Did they hang it up?
    Thanks for the info!

    Nathan and Rachael,

    Haha, what the heck?!
And yeah, I guess so....I didn't think we would win after that terrible pennywar win (note to self, never volunteer with a bunch of 8th grades to count the pennies) and yeah.....but yay I guess :P And yes, they hung it up next to another long banner....I can't remember what the longer banner said.....

Really? That doesn't really surprise me...The Penny War is the only thing you can get middle school kids to do.... :/

  17. Hi guys,
As far as the banner goes, it might be the case that you had an insurmountable lead, and they were able to make the banner early. If you were sabotaged in the penny war, though, that doesn't sound feasible... especially since you didn't win the book checkout. :)

New post now for summertime chatting-- and there's a special note to you guys, so make sure you read it.

    Excited it's summer!
    :)
