All Things Harry Potter!

Okay, by popular demand... here is your spot to discuss the Harry Potter series. We can also discuss the movies, but let's try to focus on the books, okay, people? And do you love my British cover art I found? Did you guys know that the English books had different covers from ours? :)

How many of you were at the release party at Borders when The Deathly Hallows came out? I saw tons of my former students that are now in high school, but I'm not sure how many Rattlers were there. Holla back, people!

I've noticed that you put up the children's British of the book. Have you seen the adult edition? It's my favorite cover out of the three (US, UK children, UK adult). Doubtless there are other countries' covers that I haven't seen.

Mrs. P said...

I haven't looked at the adult cover art, everchanging, but I am aware it's out there. I intend to go to England and purchase all of them in person. :)

Interesting comment, colts-- not her best? What is, then? I have my own opinion on that, but I'd love to hear yours... and why!

I loved the book as I have every book in the series. I can’t get enough of it. However, I was disappointed with the epilogue. For seven books I’ve been thinking that Harry would grow up to take over Dumbledore’s position has headmaster or wondering if Hermione would teach at Hogwarts. To not know what they choose to do in life is a let down to me. Perhaps it is the teacher in me always wondering what my students will be when they grow up.

Thanks for joining us, Mrs. Goertz!

I felt the same about the epilogue, Mrs. G; however, I was lucky to see an interview with Rowling, and the question arose as to what the Big Three were doing as far as careers. She said that Hermione worked in the Muggles department of the ministry, and that Harry and Ron were revamping the Auror department. I think that's right-- you could probably YouTube the Today Show interview if you had the time and inclination!

Hey Link!
Altona library has FIVE copies available for checkout of Deathly Hallows... but to my knowledge only one copy is in. It's on the 3-tier display in the window. If they're all checked out, put a hold on it, and we'll get it to you ASAP. If you've read the other six, you should most defintely read this last one!

I was really into the Order of the Phoenix. But I was at a cliff hanger at lunch. I left by the ketchup, ( my hands were full) and I was going straight back to get it. But it was gone. I was SO MAD. Turns out my brother Doug hid from me the whole day!ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGG

hiya nathan sorry i couldnt reply sooner. yeah book vs. movie is awesome. as i say movies are never as good as the book. oops thats what everyone says. hehe

Hey Rattlers!

I'm lovin' the conversations going on. :) I'll put in my two cents-- there are only a couple of times that I can think of where I liked the movie better than the book. Have you guys seen Forrest Gump? Well, the screenplay writer definitely deserved all of the awards he won for that movie, because the book was AWFUL. It's an adult book, and it's not for you guys by any stretch of the imagination, but even if it was I would tell you to stay very far away from it! Yuck!

The Harry Potter movies, interestingly enough, have become a separate entity for me from the books. What I mean is, while I of course always compare them to the books at first, after time, I just love them outside of the books. Does that make sense? The only one I'm not terribly fond of is Chamber of Secrets-- that was not very good, I didn't think. Really though, I can't wait for Half Blood Prince!

Ok, i know this isnt anything to do with harry potter, but I am not meaning to get this published. I am talking about the book, I have a wicked stepmother, where's my price? I own it and well.... I was disapointed when so many bad words appeared. Just letting you know Mrs. Pulley.

Hello one4two1three3two6two1one3two9!

This would have been a great comment to leave under the "Hot Chocolate and Books" posting, so I'm going to move my response over there. Maybe we'll pick up some other opinions!

you know what some people say that harrey potter is for adults mrs. pro what do you think?

Mrs. P said...

Okay, Birch--First, this is Mrs. Pulley, the librarian, not Mrs. Pro. Silly! Second, while Harry Potter can obviously be enjoyed by people of all ages, Rowling definitely wrote these for the younger ages (grades 5-8). The series is one of those special ones that can be enjoyed by many different people from man different backgrounds and ages!
