Fantasy Choices

Just finished this one! I recommend it for all of you hardcore fantasy/medieval wargames fans. Jack finds out he is part of a magical secret society, where wizards are the ruling party and warriors, such as himself, are their pawns in The Game. Jack and his friends face life-and-death adventures as they try to figure out what is going on and who can be trusted.

There will be a companion novel for this one coming out called Wizard Heir; check out the teaser chapter in the back of Warrior Heir! And hey, let us know what you think of this one if you choose to read it! I'm thinking guys might like it more...

I have joined those of you enjoying the Inheritence Trilogy! Although I will argue with you guys all day long that there is hardly an orginal idea in these books, I have to admit, Christopher Paolini puts them together in a very readable way. And for those of you who don't know, THE BOOKS ARE WAY BETTER THAN THE MOVIE! If you thought the movie wasn't that good, you should still give the books a try. :)

Let's play a game... what influences (you can cite either books or movies!) can you find in Eragon and Eldest? Do tell, and be specific!

:)

P.S. Don't forget-- feel free to comment on other fantasy books you have read here as well!

  29. Hey Link,
Are you talking about Eldest or Warrior Heir? I think Warrior Heir just came back today, so check the shelf! If you're talking about Eldest, make sure you put a hold on it; we've got four copies at least, but you're right--they come and go quickly. See me if you need help with the hold process.

  30. Hey Nathan!
I read Harry Potter 7 in about two days-- I thought it was a little slow when Harry and friends were wandering around the world trying to stay hidden, but other than that, a very cool ending to a wonderful series. You're right-- the movie should be good. BTW, how much did you love Order of the Phoenix as a movie?!!

  31. hey Mrs P.
i thought that the order of the pheinex was a good movie, but like most movies a better book they left out parts that would have been fun to see (ex:the time turners being knocked over. the six D.A members getting on thestrals that only six of them can see, ect.)what do you think?

  32. I felt the same way the first time I saw it, Nathan-- I was very disappointed on how much was left out and the things that they changed. I gave it some time, though, and then went back and saw it again with my husband (he's seen all the movies but only read the first book, so he's my key into how good the MOVIE is without the book comparison), and I grew to appreciate it much more. It's neat to watch Harry & co. grow up and face adult problems and decisions. Such good stories!

I think the part I was most disappointed about was how Fred and George vs. Umbridge got slimmed down considerably; I love the scene in the book where Peeves takes his first command from a student! :) And I'm wondering how they'll start a joke shop when Harry never gave them the money from winning the Triwizard Cup... I guess they'll leave that out of the next movie all together. Too bad.

I'm rambling on about one of my favorite topics-- does someone else have something to say?

  34. Colts-
1st book of what series? There are several books being discussed now! There's Eragon, there's Warrior Heir and there's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, of course.

  35. First of all Harry Potter is used alot in Eldest and Eragon and even L.O.T.R.the elven thing is used to much in fantasy. I resently read HP7 for the 19th time and it is still awesome! If they mess up the the movie I am going to be really mad. I have always been a suporter of the groups who get married (I don't want to give away anithing to the other people who are reading HP out there). I always think that if someone tells you some thing at the end of the book it is the worst person ever! I will say though that there were times that I put down the book and got mad at J. K. Rowling, but to all you readers out there: KEEP READING NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!!!! By the way what do you think of there possibly being a sequel to the HP books? Maybe, 100 years later, or about Dumbledores life? most fantasy books are really good but some are just over used like magic or Dungeons and Dragons.

  40. BOOOOOOO....despite the fact that I work for an Inheritance site, I don't like Eragon. Or Eldest.

I just recently started "The Belgariad", and that is where the oh-so-brilliant CP got his "gedwey ignasia". Have you read "The Belgariad", by David Eddings?

And to answer your question, Ursula le Guin, Tolkien, George Lucas (I don't know if that counts), Frank Herbert, and MacCaffery are all present in the book. Shame, shame, on Paolini.

And our school just got Warrior Heir--when I have time, I'll check it out.
