SCHOOLED book club is on like donkey kong!

All right, so far there is five of us-- Nathan, Rachael, Analie and Garrison (you still want in, right, Analie?), which is plenty to start a book club in my opinion! If anyone out there is still interested, come see me! I'm in the process of gathering copies right now so we can get reading over the weekend. I'm excited to get some of his books under my belt so I'll be ready to talk with him when he visits; maybe we can roll through this one and get one or two more read before December 11th when he's here in person! Incidentally, here is a clip of him on YouTube discussing Swindle; I couldn't get it to load today, but maybe you'll have better luck from home. Enjoy!
Thanks guys--

Gordon Korman Book Club

I am so sorry, my Rattler Readers!
I have been a super-lame blogger, haven't I? Well, I am back on the job, I promise. :) So, what's new? What are you guys reading right now? I am about to start Brisingr--Anton was kind enough to lend me a copy because ours are perpetually checked out!--but other than that it's been adult books for me lately. Time for some YA!

I was going to see who wanted to be in a book club to read some of Gordon Korman's stuff, but all of the 6th and 7th grade teachers checked out all of my copies to read in class! So, if you are in a class with Prodanovich, Thibault or Butler, you will probably be reading No More Dead Dogs or Schooled very soon. :) If you are not in one of their classes, how would you like to do a book club read of Schooled with me? Comment and let me know!

Gotta run-- thanks for being patient with me!

The 39 Clues Is Here!

Hiya Rattlers!

You may have noticed that I've been MIA (missing in action) some this week; well, it was all for a good cause. I got to meet Mr. Rick Riordan, author of The Lightning Thief and the first book in The 39 Clues series, .A Maze of Bones. This is an ambitious undertaking by the publishing company Scholastic. They had Riordan write the first book and the series outline, but nine other authors will be continuing the story. Are you ready for the coolest part? Gordan Korman, the author that will be visiting us in mid-December, is the author of the second book in the series, and it will be published on 12/2! This is amazing luck for us; we will have a first-rate author here plugging a brand-new book! I am very excited. Okay, click here to join in The 39 Clues hunt, and click here to find out about Gordan Korman's 39 Clues book, One False Note.

There are flyers in the library detailing how The 39 Clues works, but it is a multimedia series combining reading the books, and online game and collectible cards that all provide clues that could lead to prizes! Check out the flyer when you're in the library. Oh, and the books are HERE AND READY TO GO! Check out your copy today, but please remember to put all six clue cards back in the book before you return it. Thanks!

That's it for today, but that's a lot, isn't it?

So Much Going On!

Hi Rattler Readers!
Sorry I haven't posted in a while, but getting the library up and running and training our small army of parent volunteers has kept me busy lately.

There's a lot to discuss! #1 is the upcoming, right-around-the-corner release of Brisingr, the third (BUT NOT LAST) release in the Inheritance series, following Eragon and Eldest. Have you read this books? Are you excited?!! I need to go back and reread the first two because it's been a while. If you're interested in joining me, look for the Inheritance display on the north wall of the library and check a copy out!

#2 is a Twilight update. The movie has been moved up; the release date is now right around Thanksgiving! Did you guys know that? And speaking of, did we like Breaking Dawn? What did we think? I'm curious to know where you guys are on this one... I have mixed emotions, myself.

#3 is our author visit in December! Gordon Korman, author of Swindle, Schooled, No More Dead Dogs, the Everest, Island, and Dive series among others will be coming to Altona to speak to the grade levels. I am very excited about Altona's first-ever author visit! I'm thinking maybe we should set up book clubs and read his books to get prepared. For those of you who haven't read his stuff, he is a fun-- and funny-- author.

I think that's it for now. Comment away, people! Let's get this blog rolling again!

Welcome Back, Rattlers!

Are you guys ready to cruise Altona's halls again? I hope so, because tomorrow is the day! In honor of the occasion, I have turned on my comment moderation option; this means that your comments will be emailed to me first, and then I'll decide if they are appropriate for posting or not. I'm not expecting problems, but... :)

Other news: While you are welcome to come on into the library, I won't be open for business for a while. Can't say how long-- it depends on how quickly my aides and I get everything set up and ready to go. It took me all day just to get the periodicals back on the shelves! I've got some great helpers, though, so I am hoping by next week. Speaking of the magazines, we've got some new ones this year, so you guys should check them out when you can.

I guess that's all I've got for now; my brain is tired after a full day at school. Teachers get that way too, you know!

Summertime Talk! Post III

Well here we are... the waning days of summer. You're probably thinking I'm getting ahead of myself, but I've got a lot of work-related stuff coming up in the weeks ahead, so to me I'm staring down the barrel of the school year. :) Oh well. C'est la vie.

I've checked out three more books from the library-- 9th Grade Slays, The Off Season, and The Thirteenth Tale-- but I'm only counting on finishing one of them before it's time for Breaking Dawn. I am very excited to see how Stephenie Meyer wraps up this story! I also recently stumbled across a new trailer for the Twilight movie-- have you seen it yet? If not, click here to check it out. It's very action-packed!

Sounds like you guys are doing well and enjoying your summer... keep it up and stay in touch!

Are You Ready?

It's almost time for Stephenie Meyer's latest installment in the Twilight Saga! Our local Borders Bookstore has a few different activities going on to get you revved up and ready to go, including a midnight release party that Yours Truly is planning on attending. Who's with me?! Click here for more details on discussion groups and the party itself. Who's rereading the series to get ready, I wonder?
